About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).

Weekend with sweet Laz

You know those days, when you arrive and your horse tells you with their eyes what mood they are in? I love those days.
Well, except when the eyes are white rimmed and wild. Those days can suck it. ;)
But yesterday and today, all Laz had were kind, sweet, and appreciative eyes.
This picture below I think says it all for the mood he was in.
Awwww!

So after the usual unwrapping his legs, cleaning his stall/paddock and loving up on him, today the BO commented on 'Let's clip that bridle path today!" Being I don't have clippers yet of my own, I jumped at that chance.
So here is the before of his hedge of overgrown by 2 months of bridle path mess
And the clipped after, not a great picture but it actually spurred me to clean his ears out too!
Taking advantage of his calm and buttercup sweet mood, I massaged his back and itched his spots. I have to admit, being up by his back, looking thru his ears made me well up with tears from missing SO much, being able to hop on him and hack around. Today, would have been literally the BEST day to ride him. Weather was good, his mood was PERFECT, and I had a little bit of free time. Oh well..patient, patient, patient.
Ignore my egg head hat, my Mom knitted it and it's literally the warmest deepest hat that I love to wear at the barn. Anyway, fashion b.s. aside-look at how much Laz seems to enjoy this!
Love his long neck and the beginning of his camel lip wanting to swirl around someone to groom

Being the BO saw me tear up with Laz, missing riding him and knowing exactly how that can feel, she called for me to take a quick bareback ride on her 19 yr old QH Jazz, who was just finishing with her student. It felt SO good to actually be on a lovely horse's back and use those muscles again, even for a short while. I can NOT wait to be back on Laz's back in the future (hope hope hope!!!)
Sweet Jazz below who was quite the showhorse in his day, is a total delight to ride. He rounds SO nicely!

Mason playing with Carley wearing hand me down snow dog booties from the BO, he was running like a showing Saddlebred kicking up his back heels, it was HILARIOUS! Look at how big puppy Carley is getting too!
What a great weekend...

  1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my home! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. The subway tiles are from "Ann Sacks." You can usually get her line through any major tile store. The name is "Ice." I wish you all the best and I love your blog... so much fun!!!

  2. Awww...those are some great pictures! And I know what you mean about wanting to ride. I still (very dangerously) get a step stool and lie of over Gen's back sometimes while he is on cross ties just to feel him under me. That was very sweet of the barn owner to let you hop on and ride around for a bit. Sometimes the best thing to make you feel better about your own horse is getting on someone elses! And to answer you question...I will have had Gen for 5 years in May! He has already been retired longer than he was rideable since I had him...but I might try getting back on so I am not counting him out yet.

  6. How cute!!! I love those pictures! They're the best! Denali doesn't get overly excited about me scratching anywhere, except her utters which is really gross if you think about it.

  7. You must be a very good horsie masseuse! Laz certainly looks like he's enjoying all the attention. I hope he gave you a good tip!;-)
And it's funny how the hair on his legs is so much shorter where his wraps are -- it looks completely different!

  8. OTB-wow, I hope you do get back on Gen if all is good! That will be a great day, huh!?

Everyone-Laz was a good and focused patient that day. He does not always like me fiddling with him, but that day he really enjoyed it. I ate it up! :)
Frizzle- his legs are funny right now. The hair is short, I baby powder them before wrapping so he always has puffs of powder wafting around him and I can't stand the way baby powder smells!
Denali-The utters would get itchy I guess. I have been told by Laz's sneered nose to "GET BACK" when I pick off dead skin off his manhood, lol! It's grooooss but I can't leave it dangling there! LOL!
