About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).

Horse dreams

Do you dream of your horse often?
My dreams change but are so vivid. I have been dreaming of Laz a lot lately and it's always me riding him bareback, like this image below from his birthday last April. The dreams are peaceful but I am so cautious in riding him for fear of his 'bad' back legs. In my dreams all goes well until the end, where he slips and falls and breaks his legs. I know it has to due with his laminitis in his hind, but it's torturous. I hope when/if we do start riding, he is fully recovered and I can get the image of him being broken out of my head (somewhat) to be able to enjoy him and not ride nervously. I miss being on his back and feeling that connection. Soon though.
On another note, my husband and I were watching the news the other day which featured yet another non-profit barn going into foreclosure. We both felt so awful for all those horses that who knows what will happen to them? What was their life story so far? I can only feel happy for the one little man I saved...so I'm putting all that into him.
Wouldn't it make for an interesting documentary to follow a horse (racehorse, show horse, farm horse, etc) from Foal to last days of life, to see what kind of lives these majestic animals live sometimes. I think it would put people into perspective of why we cherish ours so much.

On a funny side note-my cousin made this Avatar of me to seriously make me laugh so loud I almost sprayed coffee thru my nose when she emailed it. An Avatar is a replica of yourself (I think anyway) and this one she said represented who I am.
I'm in a riding outfit, with Lazarus (loose interpretation) wearing an Asian hat because when I was born to my Greek family, I literally looked Asian for about 5 years with my almond eyes and I ADORE Asian food, so it's been an ongoing joke in my family. She put us in a kitchen being I am a kitchen designer. Pretty well rounded, lol!

  2. Those are pretty intense dreams. I sometimes dream of the mare and I, has been awhile.I know your boy weighs on your mind and it must just be the first thing you head goes to while sleeping.
I pray he recovers and you ride often soon!!
I laughed when I saw your Avatar in the kitchen with your horse! Too cute!

  3. Love the Avatar! I am not a good example of moving on past a horses injury, but I do know that even I am no where near as much of a worry wart with Gen as I used to be. After him galloping away from home almost 2 miles (in the road mind you with many and people around) and him still being okay I stopped crying every time his leg swells up. I can't wait until his injury is just a distant memory!

  4. That avatar is so funny.
I fell asleep this afternoon and dreamt that Sovey bit me! I jumped awake! I guess we worry and then it comes out in dreams. I hope Laz is 100% fine soon. We are all out here in blogger land saying prayers for him.

  6. Hi, I'm new and found your blog through green n green=black n blue. Anyway I just had to comment on this post. I too have been having similar vivid horse related dreams. None as scary as yours (hope they go away soon). Why are the bad ones always the recurring ones? I also have been wanting to do a documentary featruring racehorses. Starting at several breeding farms and following them through their yearling sale, training racing and ultimate fate once their race days are over... too bad I now nothing about filming a documentary, or filming period. It sure would be interesting though...

  9. Hi Ktibb-welcome! I'll pop over and visit your site asap! :)
Wouldn't that be great..the docu idea?! I'm sure I would cry. It is always so interesting to me how many owners many horses go thru. Where I board at, she had her first horse at age 12 a mustang appy and had her for 32 yrs!! That is outstanding horseownership! can you imagine that bond? :)

  11. Hi Denali-
Funny how similiar our horse drama is on one side of the US to the Midwest..yikes. It'll make us stronger and better Moms..right?! :)
So for subscription via email..if u click on 'feedburner'link right under where my subscriptions are on my blog, it should bring up feedburner which is a free site that will walk you thru how to put that info on your blog. You will have to cut and paste their cookie info into your blog layout but it's fairly simple. Let me know if you get stuck.

  12. Such a cute pic of you and your boy! He must be very calm is you're on him bareback with a halter. After seeing Cavalia this Saturday, I joked that I would be riding Salem bareback with no bridle while wearing a Lycra body suit, but luckily nobody held me to it! :-D
Just keep positive thoughts and hopefully those nasty dreams will go away. We're all over-protective horse moms, too, so of course we understand your concern. Just try to focus on all the amazing progress Laz has made so far. I've got my fingers crossed for you guys!

  13. Frizzle- Some days, like that one, he is a sweet puppy boy. Other days, he has a rocket up his ass and is the demon spawn. Luckily for me, those demon days are few and far in b/w but enough to keep my helmet on tight! :)
Is Cavalia showing other places..I see it's in Miami now. Darn..looks amazing! :)
I am SO SO SO proud of Laz..what he is doing, maintaining his great personality and will to live is more than I expected!!!!! I feel very lucky to call him my horse.

  14. Hummm... I wonder if Laz and Denali are related, lol. She is totally either sweet puppy dog or rocket up her ass. HA HA HA

I saw your comment on the animal communicator! It was 110$ for an hour, but worth EVERY PENNY!! I know people probably think I'm crazy, but she said things that there was no way of her knowing. Her name is Joan Ranquet and she is awesome!!

  15. Sooo interesting Denali-did u do the phone communication or on site? I would be interested in this perhaps when I have some free $$ again! LOL! When is that? But I'm sure it would SO help us when we start re-training!

  16. Hahaha, I had to say that a super-rich lady at my barn (we're talkin' she owns 7 houses all around the world) called an animal psychic. The psychic told her that her horse did not like his supplements and would like his right shoulder to be rubbed with essential oils. And she paid a pretty big chunk of change to hear those totally generic statements!
