About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).

Yes, this horse has someone who loves him...I swear!

No, this isn't an image from Animal Cops of a mistreated animal. This is my horse!!!
Lucky for Laz:
A. I have time to groom him every other day when I come see him
B. That I enjoy grooming
C. That all my time goes to grooming and kissing up on him
D. If we were able to ride, I would have NO time to with all this grooming!

We have been getting LOTS of sunshine and nicer spring-like weather here in Michigan so Laz has been rolling in his wet sand I think to cool off. Nice. Don't you want to just lay your cheek on this mess?
No.
Thank god he is not a Gray!!!

So after I got him clean, he went in his stall where it was cooler to sneak in a snooze.
Love the sun hitting his foot and muzzle
Is that sweet horse's breath I see? mmmmm ;)

So, aw, isn't he sweet. Yes, he was. But as I said, Spring was in the air and all the horses went crazy running from their paddock to pasture and back and forth. Laz in turn, RAN, reared, bucked from his 16 x 16 paddock to stall and back and forth and "oh sorry Mom but YOU ARE IN MY WAY-MOOOOOOOOOOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" as I stumbled to avoid getting killed by my teenage minded OTTB and almost fell into his feed tub of hay. He did that psycho dance for about 15 minutes and worked himself up in a trembling sweat. Las finally settled down but the whole time I was a bit worried he was really going to hurt himself. He was running so fast that he actually spun inside his stall and fell on his good leg. Great! Perfect. He was OK.
We are backing him off his meds- he is now on a 1/4 tube of Equioxx so he can start feeling more and perhaps not testing his pain as much. I'm monitoring how he'll do on that. I can't wait for his paddock area to be opened up a bit and maybe we are going to move Stormy (his little Bay Arab friend) up next to him, separated still, but so he can have a companion close by.
Lots of good changes happening for Laz man soon!

SassySki-He has been better. It's trickey, this whole laminitis.
The stupid heart bar shoes seem to actually be working!! OF course they come off on March 19th so I just keep thinking positive thoughts that he will continue good progress without the shoes. UGH!!!!

  4. Hey thanks for the comments on my blog! Your boy is awful cute!

I do fear for the fences with the horses are charging around like that. lol Want to giggle because they are having so much fun, and duck for cover before they run through the fence. lol Abby, my percheron cross really scares me when she stops a foot from the fence.

Have you seen the blog http://lopinon4.blogspot.com/ she has a barefoot navicular horse too.

  6. Beth-Just found that great blog today..thanks! :)
Kate-he is doing well..makes the whole decision b/w barefoot vs shod all that much harder but I'm sticking with trying barefoot in hopes of full recovery

  7. I take it as a very good sign that he was feeling well enough to run around like an idiot!

  8. Sounds like hes feeling better. And that grey comment, my girl is a grey and let me tell you she rolls. She is one of a kind though, her fur is seriously coated in teflon because she always comes back out looking clean! Her fur is the softest, staticy, silky horse hair I have ever felt.

  10. Popped over from Honeysuckle faire' blog. I am making a poster too.
Your Laz is is so beautiful and lucky to have you!
I have a TB mare that was never raced, but abuse in a training situation 5 years ago. She has very adverse reaction to arenas...so I trail ride mostly-for now- I love Dressage and jumping. But if the mare does not...well, you know.
I have her barefoot. I mostly trim her feet with the every third time professionally done. It works and I save tons of $$!

You are doing a lovely job with that horseface, and I loved your poster!

  11. I loved your posters over on Honeysuckle Faire (I'd noticed them at the bottom of your blog, too) they are so great!
My horse looked that dirty when I saw him last weekend, too! I love grooming him though, and he stands so well for it. That is kind of scary, Laz getting a wild hair up his hiney and running all over! I'm glad he was okay! Isn't it weird when horses all seem to be on the same spooky goofy wavelength? :)

  13. Laz is a sandy, dirty boy but at least it isn't mud. I am not sure, but it seems like sand is easier to clean up than mud. Maybe not. I am glad Laz is feeling well enough for a spring frolic. Today we are finally getting the warm temperatures you talk about. I hope my boys are feeling spring -y.
