About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).

Riding in our last snow (maybe)

Quick video of us hacking around in pasture
Ignore me; (please!) I haven't had a lesson in 100000000 years
Posting is off and a mess, wrong lead for Laz
Do I care...not really!? We'll get there
Some photos/stills
Laz is moving out so well, the snow footing was amazing with grip and I love that he can feel his feet which makes him a sturdier mount
I'm just so happy with him, that ride on Sunday made me feel like Christmas at age 4.
Magical.

This spring/summer that right lead will be ours...just not yet ;)
 Licking/Chewing + Good Boy Pats=happy team
I was screwing up my posting that day...I like couldn't remember!!
"Rise and Fall with the outside wall"
Despite the 26 degrees, it was sunny and such a gorgeous day. I didn't even mind the snow. So much better than mud!

Thanks to the Hubbie who came to photograph/video us and appease the 11 yr old in me
 Mason!
 Cooling out
 He was tired...and yes, um, I know he's a bit portly. ;)

I kept Pito in the pasture with us and all was fine.
Red is currently at another barn for a trial run for a new possible buyer
Pito was crying for him, Laz was not ;)
Herd dynamics are so funny
I love how he's reaching underneath him!
Still some toe first landings...I wonder if I block his movements???
 Rocking horse-canter is AHmazing
 Our quickest departure
This Bay gentleman got lots of loving rewarding pats and let me tell you...he knows 'job well done'

  1. Does posting on correct leg really matter out in a field/pasture anyway? I post wherever when I am at home playing. I just switch sides on Kaspins legs. But yes, outside wall you post when front outside leg is forward:) You are not blocking any of his movements. He still will do toe first when you're not on him. It's not you silly. He is looking great and give you 2 credit:) You're an awesome mom and Laz is an awesome horse:) xoxoxo

    1. LOL, I was asking myself the SAME question, like why DO I have to post on the 'correct' side???? But I feel it's smoother when I do..
He does land better w/o me on his back, that I know for sure.
      Thanks for the compliments! xoxo

  2. Just shows how sound he is if you posting on the wrong diagonal didn't bother him. And the other is called counter canter - he-llo!!

    Fun post! :D

  4. Gorgeous photos! I can't believe you ride in a pasture with another horse! That is gutsy! Your Laz is such a sweetie pie - he takes care of you at every turn. I hear you on the snow vs. mud. We were supposed to get snow today - it turned to muck and mud by noon. Not complaining about the 36 degrees here as opposed to your 26! Ouch that is cold but on Laz you are toasty!

    1. I hear you, but Pito is super chill and I just knew it would be OK. Last winter I did it with 2 or 3 of them, some days it was great-some I had to stop and divide them up. You know I have zero guts! :)
That day was beautiful and felt warm, so warm I took off my down to ride..now that is gutsy.

  5. YEAH, Laz!!! That is by the far the best I have ever seen him move! :-D Definitely making big strides in the right direction.
And sweet Masey--that boy is so flipping heart-melting-ly cute with his ball in his mouth. I *DIE* lol.
And ya know what's weird? IIRC, the left lead canter puts more weight/stress on the right hind. Yes? So, you would think that the right lead would be easier for him. Maybe it's still compensation issues, or his body is still a bit of whack from compensating for so long? Maybe that left hind is sore (like maybe his hock/hip got sore from taking weight off the RH for so long?)? I could be totally wrong, but just wanted to throw it out there.
I am JEALOUS of your ride--it looks so fun!

    1. You have a great lameness eye, lol!! So, yes, I don't know 'why' but even Chiro said that he 'switched' from being tipped towards the left, to being tipped towards the right now. He thought it was good to see a change.
      The ride was great-no lie.
Yesterday, on lunge, he picked up his RLead on his own, once out of 3 attempts. Progress ;)

  7. Lovely pictures and lovely snowy footing! You guys all look like you're having too much fun--even Mason! We might be getting our last snow of the season now too. I agree--better than mud. :)

    1. Mason loves the barn! I couldn't board anywhere that didn't allow him, he would be devastated. Enjoy your last snow! Mud is right around corner surely.

  8. Oh,where did my post to you go? Good grief, this is what I get for blogging at work! Just wanted to say that I wouldn't care a scallion about being on the right or wrong lead! What matters is that you are on your beautiful horse under a beautiful blue sky. And having a hubs nearby to take take giggly happy pictures? Icing on the cake! Or should I say carrot cake? Yeay Laz!

  11. I think it is SO cool yall can just ride around in the snow like that! If it ever were snow down here in the south like that we would probably panic and wrap all of our horses with with heated blankets! Such great pictures.
