About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).

The furried ones LOVE winter

Thank goodness for those with fur.  I worry about Laz that he's cold all the time.
Jeez. I need to drop that worry.  Today, I bundled up in my new barn jacket (more about that later) and headed out to face the C.O.L.D.  As I pulled up, I saw Laz rolling around, then springing up and bucking around.  Yea, he's really cold and miserable.  What a sweet face.  I still have his turnout sheet on as a wind breaker, no insulation.  Winter weight turnout is still on hanging on hook waiting for cooler temps.

And Mason.  I check his ears ALL the time to make sure he's warm enough because this little chocolate jock would go without complaints in the Artic.  He loves winter! I do actually worry more about him out at the farm in the summer but I'm able to cold hose him down several times on the hot hot days.  Winter, he just gallops around happy and warm.

After our workout, it was slurpee time. I'm getting the water to beet pulp shreds ratio better so it was more slurpee vs broth.  Laz yum yum yummed it up!
After a little Masterson bladder meridan massage via me, I took Laz to tack room for a carrot or two.  His eyes are FREAKY but rest assured, he's not a robot or laser shooting horse.
Back at home, Mason and Pudge play their favorite game of "Mason stole Pudgie's favorite ball but will hold it in his front teeth to tease Pudge and to leer him into game"

 The cuteness hurts sometimes :)

And since if you own a horse, you also own an empty wallet, or close to it.
I thought I would share THIS exciting news.
Ok, maybe not so exciting but money saving!
I bought a new down coat for the barn (MUCH needed). Got it on MEGA sale from Land's End (had never shopped there before)-got it for 40% off and Free shipping AND via EBATES which in turn, got me back 6% cash back.
If you don't know about EBATES, check it out and sign up.
If you are an internet shopper like I am, you get percentage points back on your purchases, so basically........FREE money for horse stuff! ;)
And..best of all, the jacket kept me toasty warm today in 20 windy weather.
Laz was OBSESSED with the fur trim (which btw can come off) and kept nuzzling it.
I got the jacket in brown which is so dark, basically black, and love love love it because it kept me warm  AND has a double/two way zipper so you can ride in it.

  1. Glad Laz doesn't have laser eyes... I would be jealous!

I decided it was time for me to purchase a real coat last week when the temps fell into the 20's (overnight low, not daytime temps) and love the one I got as well, it's a 4 in one but will spare you all the details though, lol.

That last picture is a SO FREAKING CUTE!

  2. Love Land's End! Especially for winter-y stuff, they're awesome -- there's an outlet store near where I lived in the Chicago suburbs and I always got tons of great sweaters, outerwear, etc. there. LLBean & Eddie Bauer are great, too!

Down here in Miami, it is already dropping down into the thirties!!! How re-goddamn-diculous is that?! Seriously. I'm wearing a tank top, hoodie, and wool sweater, & the heat is on. Maybe I need to get a winter house on the actual equator??

    Love Laz's Horse-bot laser-shooting eyes -- too funny!

  6. Ooooohhh...I love that coat. I'm think I need one too ;).

Your dogs are so cute - I love when dogs look with their heads just slightly cocked (like in your pic) - it definitely is so cute it hurts...ha ha.

It always amazes me how warm horses stay in this awful freezing weather....they almost seem to like it, the freaks!

  7. I have that jacket in white for around town and I love it, too!!! :-) If I could I would change one thing: underarm zippers (like on my Mt. Horse Original coat), because you actually get so warm in it that I feel it would help. I usually have to take the coat off and just rest it over my shoulders to drive. I certainly do love how warm it is!! Def'n a good Lands End buy: I like getting their off-season sales. Thank you for the EBATES info.

  9. Should Photoshop a horn onto Laz and make it look like he has metal plates. Then he can be a Robot Unicorn. :D

  10. Down is the BEST way to stay warm! it beats any synthetic fiber, in my experience! Congrats on that new coat. I just got a very similiar deal on a ski coat for my husband at JCPENNEY!!
At least the horses do not need down coats! I love how they get sooooo furrrry! I have also never seen My horse look or act cold! And we get some darn cold weather here!!
As usual, I love all of your pictures of all of your creatures!

  11. Laz is gorgeous! such a beautiful write up.Sweet Doggie picts too!!
-hope his feet get better! there is a nutritionalist named Lisa St. john -Lavender Sage who sounds good, I've been tempted to call her.
oh, colic, mine just did that when we had a 40 degree weather shift, and a bunch of people lost their horses...scary stuff. i feed yeast now. Have you tried "remission' it's a magnesium supplement and my friends horse came out of founder 2x surprising the farriers, and that's what they used to get her going again. Much good luck to you and Laz!
