About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).

I've been reading as much as I can over at the Rockley Farm Blog, if you are a hoof nerd like myself, go visit, there are such mind bending thoughts that get me every time.
Like, simple thoughts that I'm trying to adapt..in hopes that it keeps us on a better track.
I'm still MISSING something regarding Laz's RH...I'm just not sure what. The continual bruising and sensitivity is just telling me, something is still off.  His bars? I think one side is still folding over his sole causing it to impact despite our chasing?? Even though he's getting better, there is something still off. His sole material on medial side is very hard and odd..almost plastic like, like bar type for those hoof nerds out there...grrr, not sure.
Our dirt road hand walks to attempt some self trimming/balancing

Below are shots of his RH
The medial side is where the bruising is, as you can see

Such difference in his grooves, right?
Also, the hoof wall on medial is still slow growing and thick although BETTER than it ever has been.
This is also where the most severe rotation was when he first got ill 2 yrs ago...
I'll be taking down the heel more this weekend, and backing that toe up a bit...
Grazing started a little over a week ago, evening for 1-3 hours.
Seems to be doing well with it so far...fingers crossed but I think he'll be (dare I say) Ok with it.
Fat boy sez Mmmmmmmm

  2. Love Rockley Farm Blog! Lots to learn there for sure. I need to get Val out on more hard surfaces too. Sand doesn't help the frog grow I think.

Great pix and video of Laz - he looks fabulous!

  3. You know I love Rockley. I really think we need to go there to learn - if only Nic offered a course for us. I am not a hoof anorak, as she says, but I AM a whole horse anorak - it is all connected. Their nutrition, and proper horsekeeping and correct exercise keeps them sound and sane.

Your Laz looks fabulous playing with his bff.

  4. I will definitley check out that blog you mention because I have become a hoof nerd by default! I sure wish my brumby had less-delicate feet! Those sole pics are oh-so interesting to me. Of course I get so used to seeing Lilly's feet that when I see another, I think OOOohhh! LOOK AT THAT! I love all your action shots! Those beautiful legs in action. Gorgeous.
