About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).
Join us for our re-training, rehabbing from laminitis and testing all parts of mixed up horsemanship and partnership, and luck...

Dealing with lameness

Oh Lazaroo!
I had the vet out last Thursday to see what was up with Laz. I had suspected an abscess and then that caused him to walk funny, then become sore in his hind end. But a couple weeks later?
After her evaluation, she thought he looked like he had taken a spill. As in, fallen down.
He was humping his back and just showing overall soreness.
She treated him with Equioxx and Banamine and left us with a 5 day supply of Equioxx for continued pain support. Poor Boo!
Needless to say, I haven't ridden him since his 'abscess' and surely wouldn't hop on with him walking around like a stiff old man.
We are permitted to do 'soft' ground work, freestyle no lunging just yet as he needs rest
Below we worked on some soft pressure releasing of his face and legs while he stood.
Below is his processing face. I only 'played' with him as long as he seemed interested, because when I don't feel good, I have a short span of patience. I can only assume the same for him.
This was prior to vet's arrival, just some grazing time with Mason in one of the pastures

We have a recheck tomorrow to see how he's feeling in comparison.
He's also been put on selenium as his levels were extremely low (most of MI is testing low fyi this year) and he's eating it well (with cocosoya added to it of course)

Spring Toes

My Arab looking OTTB
Had to pull out the soaking boot with clean trax a couple of weeks ago.
Either an abscess popped or something was causing him to be a bit foot sore. Prior to our starting them back on the grass pastures too :/
I did find a hole/thrushy spot in his RH frog so this soak cleaned it out
After the soak I booted him, and here he was napping the next morning
I walked over and rubbed his back and hips and he groaned and stretched
Sweet boy
He was walking 99% better so I unbooted him

Some video stills from my BO of the horses out to pasture for an hour that evening.
They were THRILLED
Look at Tink below, lol!
Laz was RUNNING like a true race horse out there...and then promptly stopped and stuffed his face

 Back at the barn
Both my chocolate men are..uh, grazing. Mason is mid snap lol!
Laz has mostly shedded out his winter coat
Looking back at some noise on our walk.
He still needs a bath and a mane trim but he is shiny on his own accord!

Kentucky!

After last year's girls trip to the Rolex, I convinced my Husband, Mom and Dad to go.
Plus, my Nephew is finishing his first year at UK (GO CATS)
Trying to pack for a fun little getaway....somehow, he also knows when we are set to leave
This one? Not so much ;)
Our Waffle house stop on our way from MI to KY
Yes, I had their hashbrowns instead of waffles
We met up with my Nephew Thursday night did a bit of what we like to call "Gear up!"
My husband and I with my Parents, capping off the evening with cappuccinos and dessert (a fantastic place to visit!) at Shakespeare's in Lexington
Friday, we decided to go to Keeneland's closing day
Upon entering, we saw this glorious gelding
Ironic being this day was also Laz's 13th birthday!

Our first race, the gates were right in front of us...lucky!
My pick didn't win but I wanted him anyway :)
Down in the paddock, viewing our picks for the next race
Billy and my fam really enjoyed it
There is something so amazing about horse racing, and somber. It's a conflicting, heart beating, emotional, exciting ride.

Excuse the wind/rain blown hair (YIKES it looks like Laz's forelock) but that's my big winning chestnut in the background. I made $19 off my $1 bet. Boom.
Of course, like any overly compassionate better, I lost it all on the next race ;)
Our Nephew, looking so preppy and dapper. He fits quite well in KY now

Then, Saturday, our only day at the Rolex
Enjoy the XC photos
Such drama and skill and heart and athleticism and bravery!!!

Found my 'friend' Caitlyn from OTTB Designs on the course which was FUN
Watching ponies fly by, sitting next to my love, while getting a tan?!
YES please
PS I also worked over a walking taco which was glorious in it's own right

Billy loves a draft or draft x
 My fave shot below

Now many of you that visit, probably think, ohhh I want to be an eventer!
Yes, I do too, but I'm too much of a chicken shit so I found myself thinking "Ohhh I want to be a volunteer here with Laz as my mount and just stand for 6 hours having people pet him!!"

What a fantastic trip it was!!!
