About this Blog

Meet my very 1st horse, Lazarus.
I couldn't wait for Santa anymore or ask one more time for a pony for my bday (after age 30 it got embarrassing). I took matters in my own hands and I finally decided to pick a pony that needed a new home. Laz found me as I contemplated with this idea. He was sweet yet very sassy, fresh off the track, Thoroughbred (OTTB).

Smelling the daisies...

So, remember that charity dinner that J9 and I went to, to raise money for a local barn that burnt down (again, no horses or people were hurt).
Well, I bid on a private yoga and chakra balancing session and I WON!!!
I was SO excited!
So, I had my chakra balancing hour session.
I've NEVER done anything like that but it was super relaxing, cool, spiritual and just all sorts of fun. I did laugh a few times but for the most part, totally positive and spot on and I got a cool crystal and scented oil to keep my chakra's aligned ;)
I'm down with that!
She also knew I was a horsefreak girl so she gave me holistic oils and treatments as it pertains to horses. How VERY cool of her!
So, I'm sharing with all of you!
Good to know and I already use a thrush spray by Zephyr's Garden that has Oregano oil in it, for daily scrubbing/cleaning.
**Interesting note about pure oils, is it says to put on coronet band for better absorption.

I spy two spoiled ponies from the top of the hill...
I love that Laz never minds me pulling him from the field.
Work ethic of an OTTB
We've been walking our dirt road (approx 1.88 mile) every other day.
I'm trying to build up sole toughness, although I'm keeping his RH padded/booted for now to allow the sole to regenerate some, as I did some major bar removal.  That hoof is ever changing, but I think in a good way right now!

Stopping on our 'walk' to eat some greens
Daisies!
My lovely boy.
Does anyone remember Sun In?
I would have died for his bang's fluff and coloring back in the 7th grade ;)

No pictures because we are always ALONE  but we rode on Sunday!
It was windy, and cool and he was 1000% awesome. No antics, no spooks, just bareback out in the big field working on walking and trotting. Nice boy!
We pretended to XC train, on the um, er flat.
There are hills though :)

Today, our hand walk work.
It was after work, so the street was buzzing with people, cars, UPS truck, commercial lawn mowers, weed whackers, screaming kids. All great for his exposure
I SO enjoy hand walking him, I get my exercise (that is a joke because we amble down the road) but it feels good and I can watch how he's walking.

Laz's impression of an Arab snorting at a lady weed whacking her shrub.
SNORT!
 See behind Laz?
That is our neighbor (boarding neighbor) who returned from FL.
His name is Killian (great name!) we just found out, in talking to his Mom and he's 33 yrs old!
He literally has the sweetest nicker and calls to Laz when we walk by.
She told me Killian got out the other day and she found him up with Laz and Justin, chatting over the fence, lol! He is a very sweet old man and he's by himself (although he can see Laz/Justin) so I like to let him have a social moment when we walk by.
I hope to have Laz until his 33...or 133!!

Today, we also adventured out in the tall side grasses.
Laz can be a brave boy. I just send him in and no problemo.

Would you be afraid to go in knee deep into a field full of snickers? I think not
He was into 'touch it' BIG time today...EVERYTHING he wanted to touch.
No treats just lots of praise
Some stills of his trot work today, booted/padded
(only when I'm there-otherwise I leave his hoof naked).
I see slight improvement in his striding out and coming underneath himself more...

He's obviously more sound on grass/sand so I get videos/still of both terrains and we work on both for variation

And yes, these Slo Mo videos are BORRRING but also it's my gauge/guideline to help me with trimming him. How he's landing, how it's changed from trim to trim, etc :)
This video was taken while we walked up a small incline, turned around and back down to check different of landing on fronts.
Rockley has some amazing slo motion videos and totally inspired me to do my own!
I hope in 6 weeks to see some major differences as long as I don't do something to F it up!

  1. I love the arabian snort picture, his head does look pretty arab-y. You have such a handsome boy. :)

  2. Love the daisies and the snort! Great job walking down the road - on board and beside your boy. Both are excellent for feet and bodies and minds in my opinion! Sounds like great times out at the farm - touching things and nibbling grass and visiting elderly neighbors. You are doing great with the self trimming - Laz looks better to me moving. Long live Rockley and slow-motion videos. I spend so much time watching my own horses land now. I don't have video capabilities (yet) but I am incessantly turning around as I lead them, trying to compare them to what I see at Rockley!

I am up at 5am this morning to get ready for my boys' massage. She is coming at 8am!!!! I am so excited! Thank you for all the info. We wouldn't be doing this without you and Laz!!!

  4. LOL Hampton has the sunny highlights forelock going on, too! Wish my hair had such cool natural highlights!

  5. Oh yes, I remember Sun-In and I remember it doing exatly to my hair what Laz's looks like! Hah! It looks much better on him, but horses can carry everything off a little nicer than we humans. I love to hear that other people like to walk their horses and then end up just ambling along. I have to tell you, I am one expert at ambling. I probably got it from my horse. Laz is looking really GREAT! He looks healthy and glowing. And so happy. The daisies! Now that is adorable.

  6. This might be my favorite post yet. :)

Handsome Laz looks very arab-y for sure. Love the snack remnant hanging off his lip in that shot!!

Walks that contain a lot of grazing (and gazing) are good fun. Val loves "touch it" too, although if he doesn't get treated then sometimes "touch it" can turn into pick it up and shake it.

Thanks for the tip on slopro - you've really updated my iphone photo skillz. ;)

  8. Story-I love the Zephyr's products. Bonus is you can contact them and ask questions about any 'issues' you are having and they will guide you to the right product for you. They are all natural so I don't worry about having to wash it off me.
The thrush spray is a great maintenance for his 3 healthier foot. His RH needs something a bit stronger and I'm not sure any product would work, I think right now it's more mechanical vs topical if that makes sense. Also, I used the healing salve on Laz's forward after I accidentally froze my Vetricyn over the winter and it worked wonders. No scar!
